How to Scan Your Hard Drive
The Scan Disk utility helps preserve the data on your hard drive. It checks your file structure, allowing you to see if you have any corrupt files. Corrupt files can cause program errors and crashes. Run Scan Disk once a week

If your operating system is Pre-XP:
First click Start,
then Programs,
then Accessories,
then System Tools,
then Scan Disk.

Windows XP

If you are using Windows XP, there is a different way to run Scan Disk.

Double-click on "My Computer" then using your right mouse button click on drive C:\, then click Tools, then click on the "Properties".
