Google Pocket Guide

Google Pocket Guide is a complete guide to using the most versatile search engine. I expected to use the book as a guide to Google, but when I opened it and started reading, I found that the book was an interesting read and ended up reading it from cover to cover.

The first part of the book explains what Google is (and what it isn't). Knowing exactly what Google can do has improved my searching techniques tremendously.

Parts two and three teaches you how to find what you are searching for and then 'controlling' what you get. It is easy to fine-tune your searches when you know how.

Part four opens up a whole new world. It explains all the additional services and features that Google offers - for free! Services that I used to use other sites for before I found that I could get a better tool at Google.

Google Directory - helps you limit your searches to a very specific area
Google News - up to the minute news uodates from over 4,500 sources worldwide.Google clusters the stories so that when you read the topic, sources are listed with links. It also tells you how old the news is (10 minutes, 3 hours..)
Google Images
- looking for a picture of something? Search Google Images
Google Groups - newsgroups are an excellent way to get help from other users. If you have looked for information that you simply can't find the answer to, there is a very good chance that someone else has asked for help from the groups.
Google Catalogs - Browse or search through thousands of catalogs. Google has scanned pages from actual catalogs and placed them online for you to browse or search.

Froogle Google - a directory that helps you find products faster than a regular search
Language Tools - Google language tools is a lifesaver! Have you ever visited a website and found that it was in another language? Googles language tool translates the whole page! I've also used the translate tool to translate text that I found from other sources. The dictionary tool is powered by dictionary.com. Use the phonebook tool to search by name or number.
Google Toolbar - You can download the toolbar and park it on your browser to keep Google at your findgertips while you are online.
